- Avoid dummy cameras. While they may deter some burglars, they also can create a legal liability by creating an expectation of safety.
- Put up signs. Highly visible signage that lets people know that they are being filmed can greatly increase the deterrent effect.
- Do not record audio. Most CCTV systems do not include audio monitoring for the simple reason that it is generally illegal.
- Buy for the right reasons. Using a high-tech solution to solve a low-tech problem can result in wasted money and effort.
Security Camera Options
Security cameras come in many different styles including dome, bullet, infrared and c-mount types. The best security camera for you will depend on several factors such as whether you will use the security cameras inside or out, during the day, at night, or both.
Bullet style security cameras are the most popular. They can be used indoors or out, can record in black and white or color and come with all required mounting hardware. The camera housings are weather-resistant and don't require added external protection. Most security cameras have a fixed 4mm lens allowing you to see facial features at up to 35 feet with a 70 degree angle of view.
